Web design FAQs
Getting started
How do I get started?
Just fill in the contact form and tell me a bit about your business and what you’re looking for. I’ll get back to you within one working day for a no-obligation chat. There’s no hard sell, just a conversation about what you need.
How long does it take to build a website?
Most sites are live within 2–3 weeks of me receiving your content and your sign-off. I’ll keep you updated throughout, and nothing goes live until you’re happy with it.
Do I need to provide my own content and photos?
I’ll guide you through exactly what’s needed, but yes, you’ll need to provide your business information, any specific photos, and your logo if you have one. If you don’t have professional photos, don’t worry. I can advise on affordable options or use suitable stock images instead.
Do I need a domain name already?
No. If you don’t have one yet, I can help you choose and register a domain as part of the process. If you already have one, I can work with it. Domain registration typically costs around £10–15 a year and is separate from any build or monthly fee.
Is there a long-term contract?
No. The monthly hosting and care package runs month to month, no lock-in, no cancellation fees. The only commitment is the one-off build cost for paid builds. The free starter site has no setup cost at all.
After your site goes live
Can I update the website myself once it’s live?
You have two options:
I handle it for you, just email me with what you need changing and I’ll take care of it. Minor updates such as swapping a photo or changing a line of text are included within fair and reasonable use. Larger changes, adding new pages, significant redesigns, or anything more involved, are charged at £50/hr. I’ll always confirm the likely cost before starting any chargeable work.
You do it yourself, if you’d prefer direct control, I can set you up with editor access to your WordPress site on request. Just bear in mind that any fixes required as a result of changes made directly to the site are charged at £50/hr. If you’d like a short handover walkthrough to get you comfortable with WordPress before you dive in, I offer this as a one-off add-on for £75.
What happens if my website breaks or goes down?
That’s exactly what the hosting and care package covers. I monitor and maintain your site, handle security updates, and take automatic backups. If anything goes wrong, I’ll fix it, you don’t need to do a thing.
Will you help me get found on Google?
Every site I build follows SEO-friendly best practices — proper page structure, fast loading, and mobile-optimised — so you start from a solid foundation. I don’t offer ongoing SEO campaigns, but I’ll make sure your site isn’t invisible to search engines from day one.
Costs
How much does a website cost?
It depends on what you need. A free single-page starter site is available for just £25/month with no setup fee — ideal if you’re just starting out or working to a tight budget. A full multi-page website starts from £499, and an e-commerce store starts from £799. All paid builds include the hosting and care package at £25/month.

Why WordPress
Why do you build websites in WordPress?
Because after 18 years of building websites, it’s still the best tool for the job for most small businesses.
WordPress powers around 40% of all websites on the internet, not because it’s easy to sell, but because it genuinely works. It’s flexible enough to handle everything from a simple brochure site to a full e-commerce store, and it’s backed by a huge global community, so it isn’t going anywhere.
For my clients, that means a few practical things. If you ever want to log in and make changes yourself, you can, WordPress has a simple, friendly editor that doesn’t require any technical knowledge. If you ever need to move to a different designer or host further down the line, your site goes with you. And because WordPress is so widely used, there’s no shortage of developers who can work on it if you ever need something beyond what I offer.
I’ve been building WordPress sites since the early days. I know exactly what I’m doing with it, and I know how to avoid the pitfalls that catch people out. It’s the platform I trust, and it’s the one I build on.
